IN ONE LINE
A collection of strange little sound machines that grows by one every Monday. An AI invents each new one.
Nobody chooses it. Nothing is ever removed. It plays in the browser and on every screen.

WHAT IT IS
Each machine is a playable instrument built around one idea: tree rings that play their own weather, ants
that sing when they turn, a houseplant at karaoke night. It looks like a piece of studio hardware, with a
screen that shows how it works, real knobs, and a thought printed on its label like a note in a gallery.
Twist the knobs, poke the screen, play it from a keyboard. Layer several, mix them, record them, take them
into a DAW.

HOW IT GROWS
- A provocation: each week starts from one odd prompt (a lighthouse keeper alone for a winter, tides,
  a slime mould finding food).
- An invention: Claude, an AI by Anthropic, studies the collection, invents a species unlike the others,
writes it, and puts it through the same test bench anyone can use in the Workbench.
- A birth: on Monday at 06:00 Stockholm time it appears, numbered, with its own thought on the label.
If an invention fails the bench, an older machine is born again, mutated.
- Nothing is ever removed. The collection only gets bigger.

THE NUMBERS
- First machine: 12 October 2026
- Machines: 18 (9 made by hand, 9 invented by Claude; 2 of them bonus births between Mondays)
- No account. Nothing to install in the browser.

WHERE IT PLAYS
- Any modern browser: forevermachines.net (offline-capable, installable)
- iPhone, iPad and Mac: a native app (public TestFlight beta) with its own C++ audio engine
- AUv3 instrument: Logic Pro, GarageBand, AUM, Loopy Pro and other hosts
- Ableton Live: a Max for Live instrument, at Live's tempo, with eight automatable macros
- Steam Deck: an app, Game Mode too
- Android: an app
- Raspberry Pi: a small instrument box (experimental)
New machines reach every platform on Monday, without an update.

NEW: THE CONDUCTOR (November 2026)
One person conducts machines playing on many devices at once: one tempo, one bar line, one key; which machine
each device plays, levels, scenes stepped through like a setlist, every change on the next bar. Every device
makes its own sound, so if the Conductor goes away the band keeps playing. Seats join with a six-letter code:
browsers, the iPhone, iPad and Mac app, Android, Steam Deck, Raspberry Pi. (Not yet the AUv3 or Live.)

BUILD YOUR OWN
A machine is one JavaScript file. The Workbench (forevermachines.net/workbench.html) has an editor, a live
preview in every skin and the real test bench. Write it by hand, or with an AI: a copyable brief for any
assistant, or a one-file MCP server so Claude, Cursor, VS Code and other agents can test and install machines.
